FAQ For the NEO 2 Modchip

Q: What does this mod do ?
A: Enables all PSX Backups to play with no swap trick or patch (PSX imports need patching on PAL system). With Action Replay 2 (PAL) or Game Shark 2 (US) play all PS2 backups including import backups with a very simple swap trick. The AR2/GS2 stops the disc and allows you to eject whilst replacing the boot CD with the backup.  Does not support Original PS2/PSX Imports.

Q: What microchip is this based on and how many wires ?
A: 1 x 12c508 & 8 Wires

Q: I can play PS2 backups without the Neo Mod on US system and a Game Shark CD
A: This is possible but the NEO mod makes it so your PS2 is not in 20 pieces :) Don't forget the mods purpose is to make it all as neat as possible, and you can play PSX backups without swap too !

Q: I hear clicking noises what's wrong ?
A: Some reports of different lasers having different levels of success. This has been  addressed in the NEO 2 code as the SCE signal was constant instead of being put into sleep mod. We're still getting guys saying that the chip screws the laser etc etc. We've tested the laser WITHOUT the mod and the CDR read quality is awful on some models.  We've had many PS2's that when chipped worked perfectly fine immediately. We've also had some that needed a simple POT adjustment. The resistance level is reduced by just around 300 ohms, but in 90% of machines tested with NEO2 - NOTHING was done to "tweek" the laser.

Q: What is the difference between NEO & NEO 2
A: Neo 2 is a Code designed specifically for the AR2/GS2 method. Features include Intelligent SCE signal (vast improvement solving most of the clicking problems) & Auto Disc Detect (Knows if disc is CDR / PS2 / PSX therefore no need to hold reset for 3-4 seconds).

Q: Do I need to patch the games ?
A: Only PSX Imports on PAL machine. Use the Patch-It Tool.

Q: Will it play PS2 games that are already patched ? 
A: Yes

Q: Where can I buy the chip ?
A: It is available to buy from this site right now.

Q: I have a PIC Programmer - Where can I download the code ?
A: The NEO 1 code has now been removed from the site as it was only a Beta with many bugs and was never meant for long term use and especially NOT resale. So if you see ANY sites selling the NEO mod - check with us that they are an authorized reseller first. NEO 2 hex will not be sold or distributed (no doubt it will be ripped but until then.......)

Q: Do you sell Blank Chips & Programmers ?
A: Yes - See the odrer page

Q: My friend uses a switch and not a mod to get this working
A: Good for him - how very neat and tidy - he can play all his PSX backups without a swap too can he? 

Q: Does the NEO Mod work in any of the JAP consoles ?
A: It has tested working in the JAP SCPH 10000/15000 & 18000 but NOT the 15000 TI

Making Neo Key:

For free: Those who wish to try your ability can simply flash this hex PSX hexcode ,

 

Cut the USB cable to expose the wires. There should be a total of 5 wires including the shield drain wire:Connect the chip like this:

USB cable-> Neo2 modchip
    red wire         -> pin 1 Neo2
    green wire      -> pin 6 Neo2
    black wire      -> pin 8 Neo2

and install the ON/OFF switch between the PIN #6 (SCE signal out) wire *and* the PIN #6 PS2 solder point. (the FINAL Modchip.com PS2 chip will NOT work here since it needs to be activated via PIN #4 (power button).

You can still use you Neo 2 modchip to do it:
1. Cut the USB cable to expose the wires. There should be a total of 5 wires including the shield drain wire:
 red = data out VBUS
 white = negative voltage D-
 green = positive voltage D+
 black = ground GND
 silver = shielding wire/ drain wire

2. Connect pins as follows:
    USB cable-> Neo2 modchip
    1 red         -> pin 2 Neo2
    3 green      -> pin 1 Neo2
    4 black      -> pin 8 Neo2
3. Open up the PS2 and connect pin 3 of the USB on the PS2 board to 1mf capacitor then to the pin connection of the point where the Neo2 pin 2 is suppose to go.

4. You can also add the SPSD switch between the pin 2 of the USB cable to turn it on and off.
